Be aware

No one will ever call you from BT, Talk Talk, Microsoft or any other technology provider to tell you about suspicious activity on your computer.

Recently there has been a spate of calls – supposedly from BT – with a recorded message saying your broadband service will be disconnected immediately, with options available to remedy the situation.  “Sandra” from an unspecified “service provider” does the same.

They are trying to scare you into handing over your credit card or bank details.

Do not give them your name. They may ask you to confirm your details – please don’t do that. The important thing to remember is they don’t know who you are.  You’re just another number, the next target on their list.

Put the phone down.

Because I don’t want to have to sit with you and say, “Call your bank. Cancel your credit card. Ask them to stop the payment before it goes through.” Not again.

If you have any doubts about the security of your computer, call me. Advice is always free.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Call-Paul web site.

At the moment I’m experimenting with a blog format, so there will be updates:

  • Warnings about security issues
  • Personal thoughts regarding new technologies
  • Suggestions of ways I could be of help to you – I’m not just useful with computers
  • Offers

In the short-term, I will be keeping the images that came with this WordPress template – who doesn’t like a close-up of a pot plant? – but that will change in the future.

Meanwhile, please comment with any suggestions you have.

Thank you.
